Chuns Nomogram, Percent Free PSA and Circulating Prostate Cells for Prediction of Prostate Cancer at Repeat Biopsy

چکیده
Approximately 70% of men with a raised total serum PSA, defined as >4.0ng/ml will have an initial prostate biopsy negative for cancer. However, a persistently elevated PSA after initial biopsy is a relevant clinical problem and the decision to repeat the prostate biopsy in these patients is a common dilema. Prostate biopsy is not without morbidity; 1% of patients suffer sepsis or severe hemorrhage and 5% urinary tract infections (Rodriguez et al, 1998; Anastasiadis et al., 2014). The need to reduce unnecessary biopsies has been highlighted in national guidelines (Graham et al., 2008). Twenty percent of prostate cancers are detected at the second prostate biopsy

What is the most appropriate test in detecting prostate cancer in patients with intermediate prostate specific antigen levels?
Abstract Background: Regarding the variety of tests present for detecting and also screening prostate cancer and also bearing in mind the advantages and disadvantages of these tests we decided to re-evaluate these tests (total prostate specific antigen and all of its modifications) in detecting prostate cancer in men with intermediate serum PSAlevels. Methods: Following a cross se...

Although prostate-specific antigen (PSA) is a very useful screening tool, prostate biopsy is still necessary to confirm prostate cancer (PCA). However, it is reported that PSA is associated with a high false-positive rate and prostate biopsy also has various procedure-related complications. Therefore, the authors have devised a nomogram, which can be used to estimate the risk of PCA, using avai...

Introduction and objective: Discordant data still persists regarding the optimal prostate biopsy scheme to be used, the correct timing for performing repeat biopsy in high risk patients as well as the ability of clinical variables to predict prostate cancer. The aim of this review is to provide a comprehensive assessment of different prostate biopsy approaches and to evaluate the role of clinic...
متن کاملPSA density as a better predictor of prostate cancer than percent-free PSA in a repeat biopsy.
BACKGROUND The aim of our study was to identify the optimal predictor of prostate cancer among several prostate-specific antigen (PSA) derivatives in repeat prostate biopsy. METHODS We retrospectively assessed the repeat prostate biopsy specimens, obtained between 1999 and 2008, of 212 patients with a total PSA (tPSA) of 4-10 ng/ml and normal digital rectal examination. Using a receiver opera...
متن کاملA novel equation and nomogram including body weight for estimating prostate volumes in men with biopsy-proven benign prostatic hyperplasia.
Anthropometric measurements, e.g., body weight (BW), body mass index (BMI), as well as serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) and percent-free PSA (%fPSA) have been shown to have positive correlations with total prostate volume (TPV). We developed an equation and nomogram for estimating TPV, incorporating these predictors in men with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). A total of 1852 men, inclu...
